Congrats Top 15!

Week #4 Key It Welcome To Tulip

A selfie is the best marketing tool around. Wait! No it's not! Good thing; because we enlisted the multi-faceted talents of Kaycee Vandenberg to design 2 POSTERS that are sure to make us STICK out. Oh, and you can be sure Holly, Gio and Aaron got their vision in there too.

There's just something about a hobby horse head superimposed onto a human body that makes me laugh out loud...how silly. How fabulous!! Keep up the great work, guys!

Week 4 Key It: Poster A Welcome To Tulip

Poster A

Welcome To Tulip is a slick high paced comedy that flips your expectations on it's head. In order to reflect the character driven aspect of our show we decided to showcase the characters! We know they're what sets us apart. We wanted an image that would endear them to you and convey that they're in for a wild ride! And let's be honest, with all the challenges this town is going through, they're in for the ride of their life. It successfully conveys the quirky nature of our show that we know you will come to love! Time for them to stop horsing around and get their shit together.

Week 4 Key It: Poster B Welcome To Tulip

Poster B

With arts cutbacks spanning the entire country the town of Tulip is no exception. They're planning and scheming to save the theatre and subsequently every small business in town. They'll fight for every dollar and cut every corner they can. Even if it involves pulling out the crayons and making their own posters. Will it be to their benefit or their detriment? We'll have to wait and see. But one thing's for sure, no matter how dire the situation: They'll turn this tragedy into a comedy. PS: Do you know what play this image is from?

KAYCEE VANDENBERG - GRAPHIC DESIGNER

KAYCEE VANDENBERG - GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Kaycee extraordinaire is our amazing designer! She was eager to listen and quick to execute pulling together a poster that sings! And what more could you ask for?! She successfully compiled our ideas into a cohesive poster that tells the story we want to tell.

DRAWING IT OUT

DRAWING IT OUT

Our brains are filled with ideas and we need to get them out! There's no better way to get back to the creative then with paper and crayon. So we pulled out our tried and true tools and started playing. Let's admit it, we're basically overgrown children. The result is something you can be proud to hang on your fridge forever, or even better yet, get it on your TV!

HORSING IT

HORSING IT

Behind the scenes magic for the Welcome To Tulip team while horsing around at our poster photo shoot! Our characters are a wild bunch and they deserve to be showcased. Front and centre in our stories they'll rope you in with their charm, their wit, and their idiocy. They have stories to tell and they're ready to take you on a wild horse bucking rodeo ride!

WE BOUGHT HIM FOR $20

WE BOUGHT HIM FOR $20

Who knew that this simple purchase would end up becoming such a distinguished and recognizable image that immediately connects you to our show. Horsey has become a memorable member of our videos. We've gotten a lot of mileage from this little guy and we plan to ride him into that beautiful Top 50 sunset.
Fave 54   Share 1
RAINED OUT

RAINED OUT

What's more recognizable than this classic Singing In The Rain image? Maybe Holly's face in the background! Not afraid to get her hands dirty she figuratively rolls up her sleeves and dives in fully committed. Whether it's holding up flats in the background or directing Gio to get the photo we need, this girl is all in and we're glad to have her on board! And Gio's good to have around too.

I have to give today's praise to Kaycee Vandenberg. I have never met her, but I am in love with her poster series. Great comic photography over a plain white background and a fairly simple but memorable title card... Never mistake simplicity for laziness, because the results are the most professional and eye-grabbing posters in this competition. Brilliant artistic decisions, Kaycee. As every comic strip artist knows, the human eye is inherently lazy, which is why we are drawn to a colourful focal image on a plain white background. And when you're working with characters like Gio and Holly who pretty much jump out of the photo at you ... How can you go wrong? :) Exemplary...

I forgot to say: welcome to the Top 55! I'm glad to see this project made it and I'm cheering for you guys to go all the way.

So far, I think this project is one of the most professional I've seen, almost as if it is already a full fledged TV show! While I just had to vote for poster A, I also really liked poster B and the Shakespearean aesthetic.

    Holly P. 8  posted 10 years ago

Thanks Wendel! We are stoked to still be in this! I mean our dream goal that we are working hard every week towards is #1!

We do have a full fledged show and we want our project to reflect something that could easily be inserted into primetime production. Branding is also something very important to us. We love that it is nailing our vision home. Poster A is a hit. We knew it would be! Poster B is really layered with story too. We love showing two different directions that work and are usable. Probably in different marketing avenues. P.S. Shakespeare rules and he is super funny.

I have spent time watching other videos, the ones that are high in numbers and I was quite disappointed. Why is this world so obsessed with sex. I think there is sex in most of these videos. Just want to say that it is so refreshing to come to yours and see something really creative, smart, and everybody can watch. Thank you for bringing something to the platform that is witty, funny and creates a desire for more. Hope you go up to the top; you deserve it!

There are a lot of different tastes out there in humour. It is good to see the variety to know what type of show is more suited to you. Ultimately, we are excited to be bringing what we have brought so far. With that said, we want to say don't be surprised if you see something on our show one day that does have sex on the brain. I mean after all, it is on all our brains once in a while or every day! Plus, if you look at our week 3 video we did mention "sex" but without using the word. It is true though, we want to be a show everyone can watch. Thanks for your thoughts Monique! They are always welcome!!

Poster A gets my vote. I find the tidiness of it more appealing and it's comedic (yet slightly creepy) what was done with the swapping of the heads. I also fine the writing in poster A easier to read. Great posters though, both very different and creative. Oh, and thank you for responding to my previous comment, I think it's great when a team takes the time to respond to fans.

Love the feedback Christina! We feel the exact same. There is something about Poster A that just pops! Poster B is meant to be something to draw you in an look a little further. Glad you love them both. Our designer Kaycee hand drew the fonts and then put them on her computer. The care and meticiulousness put into these posters was much more than choosing a great font!

Love both posters, but A is a winner! I also want to say that your optional images each week have been stellar! Even though they are optional, you clearly put a lot of time and effort into producing them, which shows not only that you want this, but that you'll work hard to make a fun show. The images and their descriptions also portray your humour in a grand way. I look forward to these images each week almost as much as your entries! Keep up the amazing work! And CONGRATS on Top 55! So glad you made it!!!

Cam! You know I will buy you two cups of coffee for your opinion. Especially when it is laced with your good sense of humour! You are right, if you look at B more closely you get to see more of the story of the town. The drawings in the background are light. We will probably darken them up to stick out more in the future. A note about Poster A and Poster B "Welcome to Tulip". Both of those fonts were hand drawn by Kaycee. It's awesome because she didn't just pick a good font, she made it.

Poster A seems like classic CBC comedy stuff, like an Air Farce or Corner Gas style show, although it implies the show is about horses, which I don't think it is. Unless I missed something? Poster B seems to imply more about the concept, but again, the horse imagery muddles the message. The doodles are also rather washed out.

To me, the horse prop shows Tulip as the theatrical town it is. I love it. It adds to the Canadian small town feel, and shows an element of 'play' which is common to actors. The slogan on poster A is catchy and seems to allude to why they are in so much debt. A quirky group, this cast, which makes Tulip a place I really want to see more of!
