I'm just going through all of the videos right now (NEED THOSE VOTES, MAN), and I'd say this one was either the second best video this week, or the best. You were pitching to the media, explaining how the show was unique, why it should get attention, AND you were funny. Not easy to pull all that off at once. Great job! Good luck with the Top 15.

Like the idea, something new... People can relate to the insomnia part, but the adventures that occur after dark is another story... Could be some good and adventurous story lines there.

I enjoy how ridiculous this is. I like the idea of somehow linking all the sketches together. I surely enjoy a bit of randomness and unorthodoxly not always “serving the story” too... but I think non-related sketches should be used sparingly.

like the pacing of the show, some funny sketches. Has the potential to being funny sketch show. Might have a challenge in not having a broader audience if humor references a lot of things from Toronto and not Canada, but a few can't hurt.

Quite the competition from the east to the west coast and such an excellent group of participants makes it hard to pick just 15. I hope CBC gives you each a coffee mug or something for getting to the top 55. Best wishes to all.

I know I'm in the minority when it comes to indie/cult comedy, but saying you're like Mr. Show doesn't do it for me. I did like the fake interview aspect of it, though. Cute, but only mild. Nothing awesome going on here.

Thanks for the comment, Justin! We're using the Mr. Show comparison to give people an idea of the format of the show with sketches running into each other and flowing seamlessly. We don't mean to say that our style of humour is neccessarily the same as theirs if that is how you took it. Check out our Week 1 Trailer to see what I mean.

I had to watch this video several more times to catch everything - there is so much going on. Very funny and very clever. Love the premise of a conjoined mayor as the successor to the plus -sized Rob Ford. The little details like the red tie (a la Rob Ford?), the hand gestures from each side of the "mayor", reporter Clark Kent with his barely visible "S" under his shirt and Spiderman as a photographer. Watch it again yourself and you'll find more. The references to diversity are both funny and factual. To top it off you did a new twist on the "spit" take. It's all being done in a technically attractive and creative way on a shoestring budget. And the Hype-it events were real.
Come on CBC, are you paying attention? This bunch is brilliant

Interesting concept but maybe a simple google search before you name your series next time? Toronto After Dark is a genre film fest.

    Steve's Photo
    Steve G. 4  posted 10 years ago

We know about the film festival, but we felt that nobody would confuse a film festival with a television show and "Toronto After Dark" was too perfect not to go with. Lots of media that are not related have the same title (novels, movies, video games).

In the end, no project's current title is necessarily what their final title will be if they win. That will be a decision up to CBC and if they feel that "Toronto After Dark" is problematic (due to the film festival or otherwise) then they will tell us that we have to change it. We already have a few ideas if that is the case.

I do appreciate your channelling of Rob Ford through the very large mayor. Of course, now that he's just a councillor it's a little less topical. John Tory is tall. Perhaps you could all sit on each other's shoulders and have your faces peering out of a white shirt while blowing the red tie out of the way.

Toronto After Dark looks really interesting. Being filmed in the dark reminds me of The DaVinci Code, apparently they could only film at night, so as not to obstruct traffic, and allowing them to shoot inside the museums. your movie as a comedy must have a very different twist, can't wait to see more.

TAD it is! And don't worry about us being able to stretch content over a season, Grace. Ron’s story is the skeleton that holds the show together while the meat and organs and gross sinew are all random sketches happening that night in Toronto. Anything can and does happen in Toronto After Dark. The question is not if we can go a whole season, but how long to go.

Thanks, Bruce! And yes, all the sketches take place at night. We can't make it too easy for ourselves! The Toronto at night setting is our only limit and it forces us to be more creative. If we have a sketch set during say, we ask "how can this be at night?" The result often adds a new element to the sketch that makes it funnier! And beyond that, the setting gives us a unique style as well.

The reporter writing without looking, with that funny face, you guys playing the reporters and impersonating the team on stage - his right hand and her left hand moving, gesticulating continuosly while the body (awesome team) used one or more of the heads to talk, argument and reason :))) Awesome (yes, I know I used the word awesome again, yes: Awesome awesome awesome!!!) ideea, awesome played, so original for me and enjoyed it all, starting with second one, all the way to 90! "We've been friends on and off" *Gold. Maybe I've spent so many nights wandering Lawrence West and puking out front of Hasty Markets, also a former raver, TORONTO AFTER DARK is a sweet concept. Toronto does have an edgier side that isn't explored enough. Giant suits are also pretty hilarious.

Toronto After Dark, how do you do it? Week after week you bring us dynamic, fresh, current, well-written, FUNNY videos! This week, your six-headed mayor is so clever (the group spit, epic!)! Great job on the clear, easy to read sell sheets too! (Maple Leaves lol) I'm looking forward to your many exciting events this week and can't wait for what you'll bring us next week!

Thanks for reading the sell sheet, Kathleen! It may be a small detail, but we wanted it to be easy to read, so it's nice to hear it is! Stay tuned!

Give these guys the "five hunny thou thou" already. Another great concept for a video and your sell sheet looks fantastic. Top 15 for sure!

A 6 headed mayor of Toronto. Not hard to imagine after what we've witnessed the past few years. Funny stuff. Keep it up.

This video needed more punch if it was going to get the media's attention. The teaser showed some real talent for new comedy ideas but that did not come through on this video. It was disappointing after being impressed with the teaser.

We appreciate your feedback, Julie and thank you for watching! Unfortunately there was less room for punch in this video as we had to fit in a six person sized suit. Please stay tuned next week for some extra punch to make up for this week! I think you will like what we have planned.

Terrific concept! I love that you've all done sketch comedy before! It adds a more dynamic element to a show, making them feel more alive and less static. Can't wait to see more from you all!

Hello Carly T. You will be pleased to know that after hours of research and experimentation with the highest intelligence at CERN, we have concluded that the comment is submitted is actually piece of constructive criticism and merits deeper explanation to our fanbase.

With this video we of course wanted to keep things funny but it is also important to show that we can be professional and straight forward with getting our concept across. You see, that weeks mission was to create content specifically designed to be pitched directly to the media. CBC and the media take some big chances when they get behind a project and they need to know that the people in charge of it can be trusted to do their best and not slack off and create a bad image which in turn reflects badly on the supporters.

And if still don't like the video after that, we thank you for watching it anyway and hopefully you will continue to keep an eye on us until you come across something that tickles your fancy. Or funny bone, which ever you prefer.

You guys ARE funny! Loved the Spiderman Cameo... all of it really. I was skeptical of the press conference format, but you guys killed it. THANK YOU for not speaking in one voice, BUT your unified spit delighted me. Good Luck! #BeABuddyGuy
