Week #1 Show Teaser The Cutbacks

The Cutbacks: With all the cutbacks, the CBC is down to just 3 guys, who are now responsible for all programming.

Fave 22   Share 5 Views 802 Comments 20

Synopsis

The Harper Government has finally pulled the trigger and has downsized the CBC to just three people, Philip Hudson, Director of Programming, Technician Andrew Longham, and Gopher Dave. Together they must create enough content, news and sports to fill hours of airtime. With an operating budget of roughly $750 dollars and a dream, Philip and his cohorts write and perform the shows in the hopes of keeping the beloved Canadian institution alive.

Combining sketch comedy with hilarious recurring story lines, The Cutbacks takes a satirical look at the current beleaguered state of Canadian broadcasting. No Grants? No Budget? No Problem!

Week 5 = awesome!! I can totally see this working as a show on the CBC. I mean, if you can't poke fun at yourselves... And you guys are doing it in such a smart way. Good luck!

Watched this for the first time on week 5. Brought smiles to my face. I wonder how this concept will carry over many weeks as a series?

Although I liked the week three teaser, I am not sure where this will go week to week. Your reference to other comedy shows, although well done, is this allowed?

This was hilarious take on the situation with CBC! I think that it could be great to see what happens with the three guys running CBC all on their own! However, I don't know how well CBC will like poking fun at itself even though it's a really funny concept!

The Differentiator video was clever, and I thought achieved some great moments. How do you plan to provide high production value when your premise is "look how bad it gets when you cut funding"? Not impossible, but an interesting problem.

I love the idea. I died for the hockey joke, because seriously - how did that happen? Though I would buy the program more as a new government pilot project into austerity, because the CBC will continue to exist around it eventually. Like being forced to take a bus instead of plane to a 'high profile' event that is now two or three weeks old; audio that cuts and drops during the most important piece to be presented, coming back to early and late for commercials...

There is a lot of potential here, guys, and I hope you do well.

I don't see the potential. This is extremely niche, and the language is highly technical. I'm sure it's funny to a few people who work with CBC, but generally, you can't expect the public to care about these scenarios or even understand them enough not to lose interest in the first five minutes.
