Synopsis

CLEAT is an elite task force of specialized police officers with the mandate of protecting celebrities from themselves, intervening in their lives when Hollywood corrupts them, minimizing their scandals and crimes to safeguard Canada's reputation, and cracking down on foreign celebrities who wreak havoc in Canada.

With a crack team of officers with failed entertainment backgrounds (acting, modelling, sports and Canadian Idol disasters), celebrity informants and a once-famous Captain now bent on keeping a tight leash on the stars, CLEAT is an edgy, awkwardly funny, celebrity-cameo friendly, no holds-barred hip-slapper, 'Extras' meets 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' with a sprinkle of Californication.

Team

Dominic Lavoie's Profile Image

Dominic Lavoie

Writer, Creator-slash-Showrunner in training

I'm a Concordia film grad and chronic creator who got gleefully sidelined by a steady job and the joys of fatherhood. I head up communications for a large organization, have optioned scripts and TV projects in Canada/U.S., directed documentaries, presented and won at the Banff TV fest, and written a comedic ad that helped launch the 2008 FIFA World Cup. I'm afraid of bees.

Daniel Hallen's Profile Image

Daniel Hallen

Producer, Editor

Two-time all-American football running back are words which do not apply to Daniel Hallen. Beard-enthusiast, producer, editor, journalist, annoying-repeater of movie lines, crossfitter, hunter-gatherer, and hyphen-over-user are closer to the truth.

David Finch's Profile Image

David Finch

Director, Producer

Montreal-based Cree-heritage filmmaker David Finch has produced and/or directed nearly a dozen award-winning television documentaries, and a couple of short comedies and music videos during the past 15 years.
He considers himself a very funny man, unless he is being deadly serious.

With film industry being 2nd in size in Toronto after finance, and TIFF's popularity, and there's lots of engaging potential here.

Good idea, but the teaser does not do it justice. Also, I think the whole Justin Bieber thing is way over-done.

Thanks for the support! However, a caveat.

Plot concept? People, CLEAT is 107% real!

The Celebrity Law Agency - Toronto branch has been around for decades, but most people haven't known about them until they made the front page of the Toronto Star last July (''Rob Ford watch out, CLEAT is watching!''). For the first time ever, the secretive agency has granted a documentary production crew full access to their daily operations, following our happenstance recording of CLEAT's explosive maritime takedown of Peter Mansbridge for arms trafficking (illegal butterfly knives) on Lake Ontario last summer.

In their desire for transparency (and also because we're covering all costs related to their office's Nespresso machine), CLEAT has given us unfettered access to go behind the scenes with the team, and document all their activities. The footage will be the research groundwork towards writing a blockbuster trilogy of Hollywood films about celebrity cops, definitely probably starring Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson. Tentative title: 'Superstar Stakeout''.

We may also sell the footage to a network like Spike, or the Oprah Network (OWN). Highest bidder takes it home!
